Mild antral gastritis

Hi everyone i have been diagnosed with mild antral gastritis it's been 4 months now I eat little and often mainly fruit no fats at all I don't drink or smoke it was caused by medication and lots of stress due to another health condition my concern is that when I read about gastritis it states that the pain will be triggered by certain foods for some people and have good days and bad days but mine is 24/7 the pain is in my lower left side of my back and between my shoulder blades the pain is so strong and distressing I have no quality of life ever and i am currently on the sick from work is this normal for gastritis I'm desperate also I am taking ppis any help or answers will be truly appreciated

I have antral gastritis too but only mid sternal pain. Pain between the shoulders may be gall bladder - worth asking about that if not ruled out already. And pain lower left side of back doesn't sound like gastritis either - well not to me, but I'm not a medic, just someone who's had gastritis for 2 years!!

It can also be caused by Helicobacter - worth getting tested for that too. I would go back to your PCP about the pains you have and ask them to verify that the pain is specific to the gastritis.

The only things that are specific triggers for me are tea, coffee and alcohol and overeating.

Have you tried Gaviscon?

Hi thanks for your replay yes i take gaviscon even though i dont experiance heart burn i also have had a ultra sound for my gallbladder all clear and been checked twice for hpylori like yourself certain foods trigger your symptoms but mine is there all day im just baffled is your gastritis to the point you cant do anything or can you live a normal life and enjoy things like go to work and go on holidays etc because i cant be happy the way mine is so gastritis shouldnt be this bad ?

I have quite a few restrictions and socialising is very tricky when you can't drink alcohol. I work part time and find that I'm better mentally on those days because I'm not dwelling on the GERD. I also have a small hiatus hernia and some of my symptoms may relate to that - very hard to separate the symptoms of that from the gastritis. The gastritis makes me feel like I need to eat, almost constantly.

I would still ask your doc or cons if the pai is definitely the gastritis.

Have you looked into any of the diets used by some members - Koufman diet, vegan diet etc?

Hi thanks for your reply I will look into the diets you mentioned do you benefit from them and also what happens when you drink tea or coffee alcohlol what are the symptoms thanks alot for your help

I am already wheat and dairy free due to food allergies and also have small children, so I have not been able to take on any further dietary changes as yet. If I drink tea I get mid sternal pain and nausea. Coffee I can tolerate a very small amount of but then also get heartburn and nausea - same with alcohol.

Have a look at Sunbeam's thread on the Koufman diet. Some people say being vegan, vegetarian or doing the "stone age" diet helps.

hi I'm a 23 year old student from India and I am diagnosed with Antral Gastritis. I had lost 10 kilograms over time and I feel its getting worse everyday. Sometimes people dont even recognise me anymore because of the massive weight loss. fml

Weight loss with gastritis isn't typical I think? Have you been checked for infections - Helicobacter, giardia and other parasites? You should also make sure coeliac disease has been ruled out. If you're over in the States from India, could it be possible that you've shifted from a diet which is rice based to one which is wheat (and high gluten) based?? If so, it might be worth the simple experiment of reducing the wheat in your diet.

I came upon your post while searching for the same exact symptoms with the same diagnosis of "mild antral gastritis". Has your problem since been resolved?
