I finally went to the doctors today after having a chronic cough the past few years that lasts for a few months and then goes away only to return. The reason I finally went is about
a month ago my chest started hurting ( like it was bruised) and I did nothing to it ( figured the cough did it) . Well a few days ago I noticed a lump centered at the top of my sternum ( around the sternal angle).
So he checked me out and acted like the lump was from coughing and no big deal ( which how could he be so certain without xray) and said he thinks its acid reflux and gave me some medicine and ordered xrays for my lungs but said he'd check the lump too but reassured me it was mainly for the lungs
I'm wondering now if he just told me this to put me at ease and not worry of a tumor. When i took the xray I did not drink any barium so that makes me think the xrays were not done for gerd ( never said it was for gerd just said wanted to xray the lungs...but if he thinks its gerd ..)
Lastly I really don't have many of the gerd symptoms...I have chronic cough, chest pain ( that only started a month ago and I've had this cough on and off for years), and a burning sensation where the lump is past 2-3 nights...like a warm heating pad feeling ( but again...burning last two nights out of all this time?). And from what I've read it seem gerd is worse at night...with me if I'm laying in bed ( morning and night) I have no cough whatsoever but as soon as I get up and moving I start coughing
