Hi All,
I have not posted in a while as have been muddling along with my fundoplication (lap Nissen Oct 2010, 360 floppy). I haven't been entirely happy with my surgical outcome as still experience heartburn and LPR. 24hr PH tests showed reflux events 20% of the time, which the doctors thought was too high for a fundo patient. However, the barium test showed no reflux, so the doctors think the wrap may actually be too tight so some hold up could be occurring.
Anyway, I was muddling along until this week, when I went into surgery to have some lumps removed from my throat. Unfortunately I vomited the night after the surgery (could have been the anaesthesia though it may also have been a bug in the family). I wasn't violently sick and only produced some bile rather than food, but I certainly would have placed the wrap under some strain with the dry heaving. This was 2 nights ago and I now have a sharp heartburn feeling and burning throat. I am hoping this is the wrap having been aggravated and perhaps swelling up and causing hold up of food, rather than a damaged wrap. But the panic button in my head is telling me that I have damaged the wrap.
I would be interested to hear of other fundo patients experience of being sick. I know that many fundo patients actually can't vomit post surgery. I think that may have been the case with me, hence only producing some bile despite having eaten a few hours previously, but the heartburn pains I am getting now and the burning espophagus and throat are worse than before the surgery so my question is whether these symptoms are typical after vomiting and whether these settle down, or whether these are indicative of damage.
I look forward to hearing from you all.
Many thanks
Simon
