Hi Illinifan,Welcome to the Healing Well Wrapped Club! Generally people who have less strenuous jobs can go back to work more quickly. Since heavy lifting is limited for quite a long time post-op, those jobs require a much longer recovery period before returning to work.
Sitting at a desk is generally one of those jobs that allow for earlier return to work. I am a retired second grade teacher, and I planned on going back half time (another option you might consider) at two weeks, but I was working to recover from a lung infection and my classroom was filled with sickness, so my doctor kept me out until the six week mark. Whenever you go back you'll be extra tired in the beginning.
Be sure to avoid lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk and minimize bending to those lower drawers. Better to get up and squat.
As Anne said, if you're at a desk, don't forget to get up and walk periodically. Also don't forget to continue to take small bites and chew, chew, chew carefully. Keep in mind that talking while eating introduces more air into your stomach, so be careful if you eat in a community lunch room.
It'll be your call. I was amazed prior to my surgery when I met someone who was 2 years post op who told me that she went back to her job as dental hygenist after just one week. I know I couldn't have done that!
Bottom line...surrender to your recovery and follow its lead. Listen to your body. It's the boss! You can't rush this recovery no matter how much you'd like to.
Happy healing!
Glad you've joined us...
Best wishes,
Denise
