Hi,

I have had the manometry and the 24hr PH test done. I have been told that the PH test was not difinitive. It showed some reflux not lower than 4, but my consultant said that bile was also showing so it could be masking the symptoms. I have a Hiatus Hernia less than 1cm. Manometry showed that my lower gullet has weak contractions, though I don't have any trouble swallowing.

Does anyone know where in the UK I can get a Bile reflux test done?

I have had the Peptin saliva tests, and they were all negative, so I'm thinking maybe it's Bile reflux that I'm getting?

I also have burning painful tongue and very painful bumpy inner lips, that no-one can explain.

So has anyone in the UK had a test specifically for bile?

Hi

Just wondering if you've tried milk thistle? My acupuncturist "diagnosed" (i.e in Chinese medicine terms) a small bowel blockage and some of his comments made me think about supplements aimed at the liver and gall bladder. Milk thistle has reduced my reflux symptoms quite a lot. I take one capsule per day of Swanson brand ( am also in the UK) with breakfast. When it helped I thought taking a lot more would be a final cure but it seems more than one has no extra benefit for me!

When I had my last scope he mentioned the possibility of bile reflux as a cause of the gastritis, but nothing further was mentioned. I assumed it would show up on the scope or the biopsies?

Many thanks for the reply. I shall give the Milk Thistle a try. It was never mentioned to me at either scope that I have bile in the stomach, and the Consultant who did the PH test, frankly didn't really explain the results well at all, apart from to say that it's not difinitive, and there was bile on the PH test, so I have emailed him for a fuller explanation.

I will try the Milk Thistle, as I have a touch of gastritis too, fingers crossed it works for the reflux too.
