ok so basically I have had my test results sent to me but have to wait 3 weeks until I get to see my doctor. I am really anxious and worried though as I really want to have an operation but am scared I am going to be unsuitable and I have no Idea what the results mean! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone with some experience shed some light on them for me they are as follows:
Normal motility with underlying hypertensive contraction when the oesophagus is challenged with solid swallows.
Slightly hypotensive LOS basal pressure and normal relaxation;
Peristalsis was present with water and 1cm cubed bread swallows; hypertensive
peristalsis (max: 240 mmHg) was observed with sandwich swallow but during which Mr. Walker did not complain of chest pain
24-hour Impedance/pH study: minimal upright and moderate supine acid reflux (Total %time pH<4 = 5.8%, normal <4.2%; upright reflux:8.8%, normal < 6.3% and supine reflux: 4.1%, normal < 1.2%). The total reflux episodes is abnormal (acid + non-acid = 94 (74 acid reflux),normal <73). The symptom indices were positive for heartburn (SI=100%, 31 episodes, SAP=100%), regurgitation (SI=83%, 63 episodes,SAP=100%) and nausea (SI=90%, 20 episodes, SAP=100%). SI positive is shown by a value 50%; significant symptom – reflux association is
shown by a value SAP>95%.
Conclusion: This is a very positive study with strong symptom - reflux association
Would I be suitable for the op ?
