HI All,
I am new to the forum but have reading your post for quite awhile. They have been very helpful in my decision to have a Nissen done.
Here is a little of my history. I have had GERD for about 20 years. It was controlled with 80 mg of Nexium a day until recently. I found myself taking 300 mg of Zantac to combat the break through. My GI changed my meds to 120 mg of dexilant which seems to be helping. He also recommended surgery. Along with the GERD I have Barrett's, they found 2 erosions in my last endo, gastoperiasis (sp), IBS, hiatal hernia and bouts with gastritis. To make a long story short my tummy is a mess. I really can't pin point why other than in my 20's and 30's I was anorexic and lived on coffee, Pepsi and cigarettes. I do not know if that has anything to do with it but they always told me I would regret being so thin. I guess I do now.
Well to get to the bottom of this. I am scheduled for surgery 1/2/2013. I wasn't very nervous until today. I know that it will be better than what I have lived with. As I have read many of you would do it again. My fear is that since I have had several operations on my tummy I will end up with an open surgery. Have any of you had this and how does recovery differ from the lap?
I guess I am also looking for support and assurance that I have made the right decision.
Thanks for listening.
Liz
