For the past few days I get a runny nose every time that I eat something. Can it be because my throat is irritated, I also feel more pain in my throat when I eat, and I feel like is more irritated, although I take a ppi in the morning and zantac at night.

I also started to use gaviscon after each meal. I've been using gaviscon, carafate and maalox for the past nine months every day, 1-3 times a day. How dangerous is to use these for long time with my ppi.
I've read that they damage your kidney, anybody has been using them for so long?

I can't answer about your meds but i have reflux that goes up to my naso-pharynx. This means it shoots even past your throat. I don't think the runny stuff is reflux but I do think our bodies respond to it by creating extra mucous as a defense. I've always had a "flooding" sensation and have to blow my nose after each coughing attack.

That would be reflux/LPR post nasal drip. I go through a box of tissues each week.

Hi dany,

Before my surgery my nose plugged up whenever I ate.  My GI at that time told me it wasn't possible to get nasal symptoms from reflux.  He told me what I was experiencing was not happening.  I didn't stay with that GI doc for long.  It's frustrating to work with someone who doesn't listen and has a preconceived notion of what can and can't happen.

Thankfully, it doesn't happen post-Nissen.

If its reflux, why I get the runny nose only when eating. and it stops after I'm done eating. I don't think its acid that comes up only when eating, I think its because of esophagus the irritation. This would be really scary if the acid comes up every time that I eat :(((

well i have cobble-stoning in my nasopharynx (behind my nose) and that can only come with reflux.

I don't honestly know what causes it.  I'm just saying that it's better.  I agree...it's not likely that EVERY time you eat you'd get reflux.  Do you have any allergies?

I have no allergies, so I'm sure is because of the reflux, but its really hard for me to accept every new symptom that I get with this crappy diseases. I realized that if I eat creamy soft food my nose doesn't run that much

Hi Dany,

What stopped was the immediate stuffiness that occurred when I got a reflux episode after eating or anytime. 

I did a little searching, and this sounds more like what's happening to you:

gustatory rhinorrhea: n. Watery nasal discharge associated with stimulation of the sense of taste.
