Pain on left side after nissen Fundoplication

Hi there! I am nearing 3 weeks post op from my nissen Fundoplication. Around a week Post op, I developed a pain under my left rib cage. It varies from a dull ache to a pretty intense pain. I cannot lay on my left side and at certain angles the pain is so bad, I gasp in pain. Last night, the pain got so bad I went to the ER. I had a CAt Scan that ruled out any major complications, but now I don't know the cause. Has anyone else experienced this? If so did you ever discover the root and how long did it last? Thanks!!

Wecome to the Healing Well yeah yeah yeahWrapped Club! yeah yeah yeah We're all different, and you should consult your surgeon's office regarding any pain like the one you're describing. I can tell you this. The incision at the left rib took well over two weeks to become pain free. When I questioned my surgeon about why, he said that it is the port where most of the surgical tool manipulation occurred.

Actually, I was alway a left-side sleeper before my surgery. I ended up getting used to back sleeping, as when I slept on my left side I had pain. Actually this continued into my second year post op, when I went to sleep on my side, at some time during the night I'd be awakened by pain. As soon as I moved off my side, the pain subsided.

I chalked it up to possible adhesions that pull when I'm on that side. Fortunately at 4 years post-op I'm sleeping on my left side comfortably again.

Be sure to let us know what your surgeon tells you!

Thank you Denise! Ironically my surgeon just returned my
Call. He is thinking perhaps I have a bruise under my ribs
From where he placed the port. I'm so happy to have found this group! Not a lot of people are familiar with the procedure. Aside from this pain, I am doing great! I look forward to being a left side sleeper again!

Just be patient...it'll happen! I found this forum shortly before my surgery and it was a wonderful place for to get my questions answered and receive support. Since these types of positive forums are few and far between on the internet, I decided to stick around and help others the way I was helped.

Im one month post op and I still have that left sided pain. I know exactally what you are referring to. Pain still hurts bad after I eat and after I drink. I have been notising that is getting a little bit more toloriable. but still hurts.

It will get even better with more time. I think mine lasted about 2 to 3 months, but was getting gradually better as time went by.

Thank you, I just can not believe how bad it hurts some times. Literally Sometimes I feel like I am questioning is this a heart attack.

My surgery was 4 weeks ago. I noticed the rib pain about a week after the surgery. My husband is a physical therapist, so I had him check my ribs to make sure they felt like they were in place and there wasn't one out of place. The left side is where the port goes. After an evaluation, sure enough, my ribs are slightly out of place. This is due to the tube that went through them. After a little mobilization my physical therapist had my rib slightly back in place. After a few more times I shouldn't have any pain and it should all be back to normal. Ask your Dr. for a script to PT if you have this pain.

Is anyone still on this forum? I just had the procedure a week ago and wasn’t experiencing this left rib cage pain until today. It’s on top on my bones under my skin. Should I be concerned

One of the incisions is around the left rib area, that's were most of the medical tools are manipulated. You should feel better in a week or so.
