Tomorrow is my turn to become a member of the wrap club.....I know the initiation is hell but the company is great. Thanks to all the moderators and members for all the information and encouragement.....

Hi Retired Seabee,

We'll be here to welcome you to the Wrapped Club as soon as you feel up to posting.  I've been wanting to respond to you many times, but it seemed whenever I was ready to get on, something happened at my house so I had to tend to it, and then I'd lose your post among all the others.  My husband and I babysit our two grandchildren...a little boy who's 27 months and a 3 month old girl.  They keeps us hopping!

I wanted to tell you that I have a special place in my heart for Seabees...my father was one.  He joined the Navy during World War 2, and was one of the group who went to Pearl Harbor to repair all the damage when it was attacked.  Being a Seabee definitely prepares you to be able to fix anything.  He was always great with his hands...building and fixing whatever needed attention.

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow.  I know exactly how you feel.  I remember my anticipation four years ago when I was waiting for my surgery.

You'll do fine!

just a general question and maybe a little stupid but do they repair a hernia even if it's very tiny? just wondering.

They certainly do in the UK. It would make sense to repair a small one just in case it gets bigger. But don't quote me on that.

Yes, they do.  When they do a wrap/Nissen, the hernia repair is what keeps it in place.

I finally got my check-in time....10 AM tomorrow morning. I was perfectly calm all day long and they were supposed to call before 4. When they didn't, I started dialing the phone to call them and my heart started racing a mile a minute--really fluttering. What a big baby. A pure panic attack. Anyway, they eventually called and I calmed down. Now for some reason I don't have a care in the world. If got through two tours of duty in Vietnam, I can tough this out...(so I keep telling myself)

Good luck tomorrow. The hardest part is waiting to go to the OR. Once you are there it's time for a nap and before you know it you have joined the wrapped club

Bill, we have a lot in common other than this medical condition. We both are former Navy; we both used to be mechanical/technical types.....you maintenance mechanic and I a construction equipment mechanic and operator. I still love to work with my hands and took up making art pottery after I retired from a real job.
You a guitar and bass player and I play them both also except I play electric bass. Although I became a freelance consulting engineer after I retired from the Navy, anytime I was in the states long enough to get a band together, I played country and gospel music all over the south. Since I retired, I now only play bass guitar in church.

Hopefully you are resting well right now in your room.

Yes we do a lot in common. I do enjoy working with my hands. It's all I've ever known to do I guess. I have always wanted to know how something worked or how I could make one.
I was an aviation structural mechanic/structures on RH-53D, MH-53E, E-2C, and C-2As. Before the Navy I worked farms and on cars. After the Navy I kept working on cars and then went to machine maintenance.
I've never been in a band, but the family has enough musicians we could have had one. I play mostly Bluegrass and Gospel, but enjoy country and old timey too. I have been asked to come sit in at a couple churches locally, but with coaching travel softball we don't get to church as often as we used to.
