GERD LINX op...JPT

 I am new to any forums,so apologise for rambling on 

 I had my Links op done last Tuesday and at the moment feeling very scared that it has not done what i hoped it would,been on PPI for 7 years, they seemed to help for quite a while until about year ago.

Anyway so glad my partner found your Forum,because It has helped me realise I am not alone, I went for the Links op because i read about it in national UK paper, and magazines and it was saying that people have the op then just a few days later their back at work,eating things they couldn't for years, well I don't feel any better infact worse than before the op, so i was pleased if thats the right word to find your forum showing that not everybody has the Operation and are fighting fit in a few days,weeks etc, even though I wish we were.

My main symptom is this terrible metal taste in mouth,and burning tongue which I haven't seen anyone else mention which is really worrying me, I had this before the op but thought it would have gone once op done,it seems to get worse once I start eating the taste makes me nauseas,and the burning on the tongue frightons me,throat sore but expected that,PND and lots of belching,will the burning ever go.

My surgeon said to come off the PPI's,but I feel I want to at least take some gaviscon too help. I am sorry for rambling on but i expected to feel so much better after all these years. Hope to hear from you.

Hang in there! Surgeons and advocates of the LINX procedure to tend to overestimate the speed of recovery. There seems to be a certain giddiness out there about this new procedure that makes them advertise it as instant Karma. The fact is, it is surgery by any name, and it will take your body time to recover from the surgery trauma and then to get used to the LINX. I am 6 and 1/2 weeks out of surgery, and only now am I starting to have close to normal days. There is a natural healing process with LINX. Check out some of the threads that people have set up with journals of their LINX post op recovery (my journal, JPT's, Nodoubtlove, Gerd Hater, etc).

I was told I'd be skiing after one week. What a laugh. Only yesterday, for the first time, did I take a good hard one hour bike ride.

I also had metallic tastes in the mouth, gerd-like irritation in the esophagus, and then the dysphagia. On the pain, listen to what dencha said--the esophagus tends to interpret all pain as gerd. Give it time before coming to any conclusions.

I'm a big fan of LINX, despite my longer than advertised recovery. I take no ppi's and just an occasional swig of Gaviscon if I'm feeling irritation or upset.

Again, follow the threads on this forum. They were incredibly helpful to me.

There is also a Facebook group called Linx Surgery. A woman named Rene runs it. Add yourself and she'll add you. There are a few people there that just had Linx implanted and you can follow there progress. They usually post what they are going through every week. It's pretty good. Between this forum and that group there's a ton of info.

Thanks for responding. I know how you feel with Spring being a long time coming! Here in Michigan, we only just yesterday received some decent weather in the 60's. I would appreciate any info you emailed me. Today is not the best day. I had a piece of gluten free toast with peanut butter and about 3oz of milk about 5 hours ago and still don't feel the least bit hungry. I am just tired of feeling like this. I realize the surgery is a bit invasive, but still less so that the Nissan. I scheduled an appt with my gastro doc this morning to discuss the possibility of surgery and to see what he thinks. We have no doctors here in Michigan that perform it, so any input with doctors near hear would be appreciated.
