The surgeon gave you some bogus info. This can be reversed or redone. The 10 years is an average for this surgery, but can last 20 years. It just depends on how skilled the surgeon is and how the body heals. The wrap doesn't go back to normal after that time, but usually loosens or starts to slip causing a need for a redo.
That being said it sounds like the surgeon did your wrap to tight. This can be dilated to loosen it a bit, but usually takes a couple dilations to work.
Is the wrap helping with the reflux? If it is then I would suggest getting in to see a GI doctor and discus what is going on. As you know if this wrap is too tight the air and gas has only 1 exit. this can cause IBS type symptoms, but you may not actually have IBS. Dumping syndrome is common after this surgery, but usually rectifies it's self once you are fully healed, about
a year.
The problem with having this undone is that you go back to the pre wrap problems and the surgery can take longer due to scar tissue.
When someone asks about
this surgery we recommend them to be sure to get all the tests and find a surgeon who has done 100s or even better 1000s of these. Being a veteran my self I am fairly sure your surgeon hasn't done this many of these surgeries. I had a surgeon who hadn't done many of these for my 1st nissen and it was done incorrectly and took me almost 3 years for a different surgeon to find out what was wrong and redo mine. Best thing I have done was to find someone who specializes in Nissen redoes.
