I have a question. I have done research on all of the many surgeries but I fear if I can not get a handle on my problem, I will have no options but to suffer BC I have a weak UES and a weak esoph but normal pressure in my LES. I have read that surgery really is only for those with weak LES'.

Is this true? Will I have no options?

Confusing how my LES is "normal" but I have severe reflux.

They can do a modified wrap that is easier to get food past. A 270 or 180 degree wrap vs. a 360 degree wrap.

Bill,

I was under the impression that if your LES pressure is "normal" (according to manometry test) then no surgeon will touch you. Bc those surgeries are all about repairing a fault LES.

Am I wrong?

Did you get any tests besides manometry? You could have reflux without an LES problem if you have "nutcracker" esophagus, achalasia or something besides the weakness you mentioned. For nutcracker they would probably prescribe Heller myotomy. There are other treatments and surgeries for various motility problems.

A barium swallow should show reflux or motility problems.

As Alcie said there can be other issues causing the reflux and a barium swallow is a good test to see what is really going on in there. My 1st manometry showed a normal LES pressure, but the 3 since all showed very weak to zero LES pressure. My 2nd one was done a weak after the 1st one because my symptoms were so bad.

molly - What is your problem ? Do you have heart burn or just difficulty swalling ?

Alice: You seem to have a good handle on how you identified allergies. Can you send me something that you followed. Seems like you had a help of a good allergist.

Any help is appreciated. I have mid section esophagael spasms and not sure what is causing it. I have hearburn and soreback. I cannot tell if I have spasms - since they themselves don't hurt.

FIGHT-GERD - i have difficulty swallowing, low esoph and UES motility, burning in chest, throat and sometimes tongue and roof of the mouth. I am on Zantac for acid supression, Neurontin for nerve pain and a motility drug to help with the esoph. I feel much better since being put on these meds. I will ween off once esoph inflammation is down. hopefully. I have been diagnosed with Post Viral Vagal Neuropathy. I must say that Xanax REALLY helps with the pain.


opnwhl4 - I will request a barium swallow and perhaps another manometry (yuck) to see if my LES isn't as normal as the first test it says it was. I did do a 24 hour PH test which showed that I didnt have many reflux episodes. Only 8. But I had been on a lot of PPI's previously to that test.

Dr's think I have a Hypersensative Esophagus. I already knew that!
