Hi all, psyched to have found this site.
I was dx'd with GERD a few years back and was on Prilosec for well over a year, 20 - 40 mgs a day. I started snapping my ankles and wrists regularly, and lo and behold, my primary told me it was due to long term Prilosec use causing me to be 44% higher at risk for fractures. So, I weaned off the Prilosec. With the help of a homeopathic type of chiro I see regularly, I was introduced to Standard Process supplements, and in less than 2 months, they addressed all my gastic upsets.
The last month or so, I have begun to have constant regurgitation, a lump in my throat, difficulty swallowing and constant and very upset stomach. There is stress in my life (like everyone's!) and I do enjoy a few cocktails (self medication, I know...) and I know this contributes.
However, this gerd stuff lately is practically debilitating. It is so constant that I cannot stop being aware and uncomfortable from it.
I have a call into my gastro doc, who advised me to go back on the Prilosec 40 mg in the am on empty stomach and eating 1/2 hour later, which I started today, begrudgingly. I am highly aware of what I can and cannot eat and am doing my best to abide by what my body tells me, altho, to be honest, giving up the alcohol completely seems like a big hurdle with the issues going on (kids, marriage, farm life, rescue animals). I am waiting to see if doc wants to see me; I did have an endoscopy last year that was basically fine. I am also going to a new primary internal doctor for the first time next week, and hoping she may have some insight.
I would love to address this all naturally, but at this point, I'll take whatever helps. I just started taking Zantac recently, as well.
So nice to see I'm not alone, but what the heck?!!! It is awful to feel awful all day, not be able to enjoy food, and basically be a hostage to the gurgling in my throat.
Any insights cared to be shared are greatly appreciated!
