Hey everyone,
I am having a 360 Fundo done next week. I have had terrible breath for the last 12 years. It started with the acid/bitter taste and reflux after a night of violently throwing up. Over the years things have gotten worse and so has my breath. I now have chronic mucus in my throat and sinusitis. The mucus seems to be the main culprit for me. I don't have PND problems, rather the mucus just sort of appears in my throat after eating. At night it dries up cakes my esophagus which makes for some truly severe halitosis.
My ENT says he doesn't see any infection in the sinuses despite chronicaly inflammed tissue. I had my tonsils removed last year for tonsil stones but it didn't help. The ENT believes the acid and pepsin are irritating the throat and sinuses which are producing the mucus to protect themselves.
Other symptoms I am having are:
Constant belching (sometimes food comes up)
food getting stuck in the upper throat
hypersalivation with inability to clear from throat
middle back and chest pain if I eat too fast
burning in stomach (rarely)
Chronic gastritis and esophagitis
extremely dry throat and raspy voice when off PPIs
IBS
I am having the surgery because I have Barret's which is progressing and a small 2cm sliding type hiatal hernia.
I will keep you all updated as to my progress with regards to the halitosis. I have no idea what impact the surgery will have on the quality of my breath but I know that before having reflux symptoms I had very fresh breath and never worried about
offending anyone.
Also, I noticed that the throat mucus and bad breath is actualy worse when taking PPI medication. I may have developed some sort of sensitivity. Unfortunatly, not taking PPIs leads to severe discomfort and burning in the throat.
