Hi, I'm a 21 year old male and I've never previously had any real medical conditions so this is worrying me. about 2 and a half weeks ago I randomly felt a lump in the back of my throat that I couldn't swallow back, and it became difficult for me to swallow food. Additionally, after eating I would feel somewhat short of breath and half a dry cough that lasted a little while. After eating sometimes my stomach feels upset, and is gargly. I also sometimes have to burp a lot after eating and will burp up the food i just ate. Finally, my throat constantly feels like it has a lot of mucus in it. I think I've only experienced heartburn like once in the last two weeks though.
So I went to a doctor and he said he thought it was an acid reflux problem and prescribed a proton pump inhibitor (40 mg Omeprazole). It's been 2 and half weeks however and I haven't experienced any improvement, I really just want to be able to swallow again. I feel like i'm going to start losing weight because it's hard to eat.
So I guess my questions are, does this sound pretty much like LPR? When should I see improvement, or should I go back to see him now (my condition hasn't gotten any better or worse)? Also are antacids okay to take for symptoms other than heartburn (such as the cough)? This is causing me to worry a lot and I don't want this to develop into anything more serious. Thank you for reading!
