Hi,

about 2 weeks ago I got diagnosed with acid reflux, just about 11 days ago I started having difficulty swallowing, I haven't eaten anything solid since, I went to the nose, throat doctor two days ago and he told me to continue with my 40mg of omeprazole, which I can't swallow so crushing them up and putting them with water, and he also put me on 10mg of reglan, I just need some help, I'm so scared and I just need some answers, Id just like to know how long it'll be like this or if anyone has ever been through this?

Welcome to Healing Well.

I understand you are having difficulty swallowing, but please give us some more info. such as does the swallowing stop right away at the back of your throat or is it farther down?
If it's farther down there may be a stricture or a motility issue with your esophagus. It could be just from severe irritation also.
Please get in to see a GI doctor also.

Its right at the back of throat bill, I had a throat doctor check and he said that it was very enflammed and that he's seen worse and it got better, but I just feel like I needed someone that had been through it before to help me out

If your suffering from reflux hitting your throat. it can cause swallowing problems. I have these issues also...If I swallow my meds they seem to just stick there... That being said. I'm 24 and have been having similar issues since I was 21... The ppi's your doctor put you on should be able to help heal your throat, but it may take a month or two to start noticing some good improvements. Your ENT would say that it could take 6 months for your throat to fully recover doing the PPI therapy.

You may want to see a Gastroenterology also to see if there is an anatomical reasons why you are refluxing. Be warned though... Most GI doctors will not take your throat issues seriously and some may not even believe that reflux contents can make it to your throat.

Also, if you have any allergies, check into that because I know allergies can cause post nasal drip which may cause irritation as well.

Thank you much the sixness, things are starting to look up, I bought a bed wedge pillow, and I ate almost a whole deal of chicken and rice today, it took me almost an hour and in very small bites but hey I did it! Haha I believe that to get better you have to have a positive attitude, and believe that you will get better and you eventually will, one more question though, whenever you get acid in your throat and it messes it up and makes it hard to swallow how long does it usually last? You know before you can start taking bigger bites?
