New to LPR, need advice

I am new to the forum but have already found so much good information. Thanks to everyone that contributes. I started having symptoms early March '13, it was mostly just a low grade burning in my throat. I had been training for a 10k so i had been doing a lot of running and thought it was from the dry air, but it got worse. I tried some OTC acid reducers as I thought it was low grade heartburn. It went on for several weeks so I finally went in to my GP to get some help. I went through a bunch of the PPI's meds with him and no real relief. Got an upper scope done with him and it showed nothing (including H. pylori) so he sent me along to a GI dr. GI tested for ciliac (negative) and put me Dexilant, which did help for a while but still had the globus in my throat. Had a gastric emptying test that came back normal. He sent me to an ENT. By this time I had done a bunch of online research and self diagnosed myself with LPR. The ENT took a look down my nose and throat and saw nothing, but he presumed LPR as well and sent me home with a brochure. I have been on Dexilant for about 2 months now but have started to have terrible stomach issues. I have no appetite and feel like some one punched me in the stomach hard. I stopped with the Dexilant for a few days thinking that was it, but it stayed plus my throat issues have returned. This is ruining my life. I had to quit coaching my son's baseball team because my mood is horrible all the time. My work and home life is suffering, all I want to do is sit.

I have an appointment in a a couple of weeks to go back to the GI doc. I am looking for some advice on what to pursue next with him. I am convinced that I have LPR but I don't know what the best route to take to work with my doctor on. I have not had the barium swallow or the pH testing. I just would love a path to better health but can't seem to get a doc that wants to take any interest. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry you are feeling so lousy; this is a frustrating and confusing condition. You didn't say anything about changes in your diet. Although restricting your diet can be boring, a lot of people feel like that can be more effective than PPIs, especially with LPR. You say you feel like you have been punched in the stomach. Are you having heartburn? Heartburn is not as common a symptom for LPR.

Kenneth, im in a similar situation. I have the dry burning larynx and lump in the throat, excess mucus etc. All of my started on the morning of March 8th when i had a Bravo probe attached to my esophagus. I have been in hell for 4 and a half months. Was diagnosed with LPR and irritable larynx syndrome. Ive had two barium swallows a gastric emptying test, MRI, cat scans etc. Still waiting on the results of the MRI and gastric emptying test. When i first had the globus they put me on ativan which has turned into another nightmare because in order to stay on it, i have to go to a psychiatric clinic. All for a physcial problem that i never had before they did the Bravo probe against my will..

I have been using fish oil, vit B12, vitamin E, vitamin d3 and trying to follow the diet from the book Dropping Acid by Jamie Kaufman. I know how you feel. I am extremely depressed because i have lost my voice 90 percent of the last 4 months and the pain and lump are driving me mad. Did you say that you were diagnosed with gastritis?? I have pain in my right upper quadrant and back, that was my original problem. I went to our local hospital in a my small town with one problem and came out with four. Let me know how you are doing and if you have found any answers. Its a terrible problem and nobody understands the globus sensation from hell

I dont know what im going to do.  I have so many other problems now in addition to the throat problems.  The ppi's gave me a candida infection so they are out and the surgeon told me that the Nissen wrap isnt always helpful with LPR.   Be very weary of that.    What else have you tried?
