Hi guys,
My first post but I've been lurking for 3 months. I would love some advice:
In 2010 I was diagnosed with GERD after an endoscopy, I took lansoprazole for two months and it went away. I was symptom free for 3 years until 3 months ago when my symptoms returned. I had another endoscopy, diagnosed again with GERD and prescribed 40mg Omeprazole. I'm still getting symptoms though, not too bad but I have the following:
pain in middle of back (slight)
bloating/burping, especially first thing in the morning
sometimes I have to swallow after meals because I can feel food coming up a bit (disguised as a burp)
itchy throat in the middle of the night
runny nose first thing in the morning
sore throat in the AM too
I went back to the see my GI. He sent me for an abdominal ultra-sound (normal). He did fructose and lactose malabsorption tests, both negative. He also did bacterial overgrowth test which came back positive and I'm on Xifaxan (anti-biotic) for that. He suggested I see an allergist and then after that an ENT.
My question is:
Have you guys suffered symptoms like this while on meds? Also I wondered if anybody had any recommends for good ENTs in NY who are familiar with LPR. I found Jamie Kaufman who I'd like to see but I'm not sure I can find the funds needed. Is my GI doc going down the right path? I was expecting barium swallow test or PH test etc.
Any advice is mostly appreciated.
P.S I don't drink, smoke, or eat fatty foods or soda anymore and I sleep on a wedge pillow.
