hopegood-
Not hopeless at all.
Compared to other forums we have a huge membership of successful surgeries. Most people aren't prepared for the true aspects of the surgery recovery and believe their surgery has failed before it has even healed.
2 months is not long enough to know if it has worked or not. It takes 6 months for 80% of the healing and the better part of a year or more for the rest.
I can't count the number of times someone has said their surgery didn't work and then a few months later they return and say it's so much better. Yes there are some people who the surgery doesn't work for, but the majority of these didn't have all the testing, weren't a good candidate to start with, or had a surgeon who lacked expertise.
I fell into the 3rd category with my 1st nissen. I didn't research the surgery or my surgeon enough and went in with blind faith he was capable of doing the surgery correctly. That wasn't the case. I finally was referred to a very experienced surgeon and all has been well since '09.
You have to realize also that people who are completely satisfied with the surgery usually won't search out a forum to gloat about how their life has changed for the good. But people definitely will search out a forum and voice how bad their life is now after the surgery ruined their life.
This surgery has been done for over 50 years and I can't believe it would still be done if it didn't work.
Take care,
Bill
