Hi,

I'm 20 and I just got a call and I am having my Nissen Fundoplication next week to fix my Hiatal Hernia (Aug 8th). This past week or so I have had no appetite and lost over half a stone :-) which I am delighted about. I am not excessively over weight but I am 5ft 5.5' 159 lb ( I was my heaviest right before I got sick a few weeks ago) but I would really like to lose more weight so I am hoping that will come following the surgery.

So what I really want to know is How much weight did you lose after the operation? Also, if you dont mind, could you tell me what you weighed before your op and how long did it take to lose it?

Any other information available about post op care would also be really appreciated. Thanks in advance smilewinkgrin

It seems the average weight loss is somewhere around 15 to 20 pounds. Myself I went from about 240lbs to about 220lbs after my 1st. after my esophagus tear and redo I went from 220 to about 175, but that was because of not being able to eat while the tear was still leaking. I am now right at 200lbs.

I was 168 and went down to 132 and now am at 6 6 months next week and I weigh 140. So I was the not so common. but I didn't eat for like 3 months before surgery and really could not eat much after until around the 3 month mark. Now I can eat more now but I eat more tofu and healthier foods now.

Hey thanks guys! I am getting so nervous now because my op is in 4 days!! any advice about what to do to prepare for surgery, my hospital letter gave me no information??
