Why is there no Hiatal Hernia Truss?

Hi,

Whilst coming upon the Reza Band for LPR - I wondered why there is no such thing for a hiatal hernia? I appreciate that you can't get at the LES sphincter externally - but surely there must be something that could keep the hiatal hernia down -which may in turn help reduce the amount of acid coming up?

Although I suppose you don't actually want to squeeze the actual hernia itself causing more acid - hmmm - anyone any ideas? turn

You have to remember the HH is the opening through the diaphragm into the chest. Everyone has a HH to some extent, just some peoples is larger than others. It can enlarge from the stomach and such pushing on it also.
There has to be that opening in order for things to go down the esophagus to the stomach. When the fix a larger HH they suture it to make it smaller, but they can't close it as you would for an abdominal hernia where the muscles are normally closed and are split open.

I just don't see any way to do it any other way and still have function of the esophagus. Since I am a metalsmith and mechanic I would use some titanium and SS rivets, LOL!

I like your style Bill!

If you are a metal smith & a mechanic - where are all the new inventions for one way valves for the LES sphincter? tongue Or how about a magnet or two placed in the stomach, and some more on a belt to keep the stomach and the hernia's down.

Really I think I have missed my calling, instead of being an author I should have been an inventor - it's far more fun trying to find solutions for hideous problems turn

Now that I think about it, an electronic screw drive valve with the controls placed under the skin to adjust it with might work. Or a pneumatic valve that tightens up might work. Something like an air bladder ring.
