I'm a 27 year old man, I had an endoscopy last month and it was found that I have Grade A esophagitis. My first symptoms of reflux started a year and a half ago when I had to repeatedly clear my throat and cough up sputum especially after meals. Later I started getting slight chest pains. The doctor put me on 15 mg Lanzoprazole and my throat clearing problem seemed to have been cured but my chest pain was unaffected, maybe even a bit worse.
After stopping the PPIs (before my endoscopy) my throat clearing symptom started to come back and I'm back on Lanzoprazole and this symptom is getting better but still the chest pain is still unaffected (much worse than it was when I took my first course of PPIs).
My question is, what does chest pain from GERD/esphagitis feel like? The epicentre of my pain is in the centre of the chest and the pain radiates up to my neck. The pain is not a burning pain, it feels like muscle pain or a sore pain. My chest normally also feels cold when I get it, and the pain is relieved by the application of hot compresses. The pain comes on slowly and can last for many hours and multiple times a day (normally daily). I don't really see much connection to food intake (I can get it even on an empty stomach).
Paracetamol does not relieve it though ibuprofen has (but my doc told me not to take this). The pain sometimes also changes if I rotate my torso and I think it feels better if I drink some gaviscon (though this does not work all the time so I'm not 100% sure if gaviscon actually does anything).
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Thanks for the help.
