Hi LiveJoy. No, I'm not doing Fast Track anymore. I quit that several months ago. My LPR has been good for quite some time now (many months). I've found that oil and other high-fat foods aggravate it. It's not just LPR. I have mild gastritis (diagnosed after an endoscopy), and constipation. As long as I avoid most high-fat foods, and I stick to a low-FODMAP diet, I do well; no reflux, no or very little bloating after meals, no constipation, no or very infrequent burning sensation in stomach (gastritis). But those symptoms do come back if I go back to high-fat foods, like olive oil and such. I'm lucky that I've been able to eat 2 or 3 servings a day of full-fat greek yogurt, and it doesn't seem to cause symptoms (or if it does, they are very slight).
I'll list my diet below, in detail. But I did want to mention that my ex-wife also still has problems with LPR and gastritis if she eats too much fat or acid, or things she's allergic too (certain varieties of mushrooms). I also avoid acidic foods. So it's low fat (about
30% of calories), low FODMAP, and low acid. Here is what I eat each day, and the time (it varies a little from day to day, but I like to eat on a schedule -- I know, people think it's weird):
7am - 1/2 large banana (ripe, with brown spots) and 10 almonds. Immediately followed by 150g of melon (mostly cantalopue, some watermelon and honeydew), and then followed by a bowl of 100g steamed white rice, 40g baked salmon, 70g steamed root veggies (carrots, parsnips, rutabagas, beets, turnips), 20g steamed kale.
9am - 150g full-fat greek yogurt, 15g frozen blueberries, 15g walnuts.
10:30am - 1/2 large banana and 10 almonds. Then 100g steamed white rice, 40g baked skinless chicken thigh, 70g steamed root veggies, 20g steamed kale.
1:00pm - 1/2 large banana and 10 almonds. Then 100g steamed white rice, 40g baked skinless chicken thigh, 70g steamed root veggies, 20g steamed kale.
3pm - 150g full-fat greek yogurt, 15g frozen blueberries, 15g walnuts.
4pm - 1/2 large banana and 10 almonds. Then 100g steamed white rice, 40g beef (stew meat cooked in crock pot), 70g steamed root veggies, 20g steamed kale.
7pm - 1/2 large banana and 10 almonds. Then 150g melon. Then 100g steamed white rice, 40g baked salmon, 70g steamed root veggies, 20g steamed kale.
So that works out to about
2300 calories, and it's about
50% carbs, 30% fat and 20% protein. It's got all of my vitamin/mineral requirements -- no need for multivitamins. I don't take any supplements or medications.
Also, I drink a 10-12oz glass of regular tap water with each of the five meals (not with the yogurt), and I include a few shakes of table salt with each. So my diet is also low salt, because I don't eat any processed food.
Oh, the yogurt doesn't have any fillers in it, like pectin. It's just cream and bacteria.
I go to bed around 10:30pm, so that gives me about
3 hours after the evening meal before lying down, which seems to help prevent any reflux.
Of course, I would never ask anyone to eat such a rigid diet as mine, or on a schedule. It works for me, so I'll stick with it. On rare occasions I will eat out at a restuarant, but I'm careful to stick to low-fat, low-FODMAP, and low-acid.
I hope this helps you. I hate to see other people suffer from LPR and gastritis. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Scott
