Hopegood-- I'm having a Nissen and hernia repair. My surgeon claims that he's in and out in 45 minutes. He's done over 600 such surgeries.

Are you wondering how long the surgery takes or how long the repair lasts? If you are asking how long it lasts they say a nissen is on average good for 10 years, but I believe that number is going up with new techniques. My HH repair I had with my 1st nissen 6/06 is still holding and has been through 2 redoes and a very aggressive treatment and surgery for an esophageal tear that tore my 1st redo completely apart.
Take care,
Bill

Hi Bill,
Can I ask why you had an esophageal tear after your 1st wrap? Was it caused by an accident or by the wrap itself?

Here is my story that is on our resources page.

The tear happened during a routine EGD to check my barretts. It happened almost 2 years after my 1st redo.
Take care,
Bill
