I can't find my old post so I apologize for starting a new topic. I met with the surgeon about
two weeks ago. He decided I needed another test, a barium swallow so he could see the hernia from a different view and the acid reflux. I did the swallow last week and my regular GI doc called to let me know it showed a sliding hiatal hernia and reflux that goes up all the way to the back of my throat. I didn't have any instructions before the test so I took my medicine as normal and I would have thought with the PPI and the tums I took that morning it wouldn't have showed up but it did.
The surgeon said if the hernia is small to medium he wants to do surgery for the GERD and while he's in there do a gastric sleeve as well. I'm still waiting to hear back from his office with his interpretation of the test results and to schedule my next appointment where we'll discuss the surgery further.
I had yet another episode this morning where I just leaned over and this may be TMI, but nothing but acid came right up the throat and out my mouth. I'm getting tired of this. I had just got up and hadn't even eaten anything. Diet changes appear not to work at all.
I'll just be happy if he decides I'm a good candidate for surgery. The waiting is the hardest part. I'm ready for some relief for a change.
