Hi Everyone -
I've been lurking here for a while and finally decided to join the forum. It's been very helpful to read everyone's experiences with gerd, lpr, surgery, etc.
I'm in my early 40's and scheduled for an endoscopy + bravo test in a couple of weeks. My problems have been shortness of breath, raspy voice, acid burning feeling in throat. These symptoms began in summer of 2012 and were originally attributed to allergies and mild asthma. This summer my breathing issues became more prominent and I went from using a rescue inhaler occasionally to using inhaled steroids daily to finally my asthma/allergy doctor telling me he may need to prescribe a long acting product like advair or symbicort. Scary! I was previously a very active and fit woman with no asthma family history.
Saw a GI doctor a couple of weeks ago and he has me on 60mg Dexilant 2x day. I thought this was a crazy high dose, but it is working thankfully. My breathing issues have improved much, as well as the raspy voice. Even my nasal passages feel the clearest they've been in my life. I still get a little burning throat feeling, but it's not too bad.
My doctor told me to stay on the Dexilant for the endoscopy and bravo test. I told him I didn't understand why, because I fear the meds won't show the true scope of the problem. He gave me a brief explanation, but I don't totally remember what he said. Does this sound strange? I don't want to go through with the hassle of this procedure and have normal results due to me being on the ppi at the time. I'm pretty sure I have a gerd or lpr problem, especially since the Dexilant has been helping so much.
Has anyone else had an endoscopy done while still on PPI's?
Thanks for reading!
