Just got back from a lack luster week at mayo mn. Did a ton of exam's and met with a lot of doctors, but haven't found the root cause of my vengeance. I did find out some things however. I found out from the GI doctors that I have "functional heartburn" ... great. I had 45 episodes of reflux, 1 being acidic and the rest being non-acidic. Also, most of the non acidic substances coming up where mixed with bile, which explains why I always have a ph above 8 on my exams. Although theirs bile in my reflux, they didn't want to peruse that option.
Although, I've been labeled having functional heartburn, this doesn't explain if I had lpr or not. They wouldn't comment on this, but did say that reflux could still be making it up to my throat causing my symptoms, but weren't willing to look into this either... Which was the entire reason for going to them.
Anywho, I found out that I have asthma doing the methacoline challenge testing and I also have it documented that it takes a long freaking time for me to take a breath in lol. My pulmonologist thought it had to deal with a problem in my throat, but wouldn't comment on what it might be... so, really at dead ends even going to mayo, haven't really learned anything and haven't ruled anything out. It's nice having my asthma finally documented, as well as my inhalation problem. However, they have no clue how to treat it... I strongly suspect that it's reflux related still, but It doesn't look like mayo investigates LPR. Their GI doctors certainly don't.
I have a follow up with the asthma/allergy clinic, ENT and pulmonary doctors if needed, but I'm not sure if I'll make the journey again.
Other then having quick appointment times in a professional environment, I didn't think mayo was any superior then a medical college or some local clinics in treating asthma, allergies or reflux. However, the hospital operated like a well oiled machine and once you got your initial appointment, your Dr could schedule exams for that day or have you meet with a person in another department rather quickly.
