Hi everyone,
As most of us know, the conventional western medicine approach is generally not helpful for acid reflux. The drugs don't work and unfortunately, that's the only thing that doctors know much about.
So I wanted to share some alternative therapies that could be helpful to you and invite others to do the same. My hope is that someone reading this will try this route and have success and enjoy relief from their condition. That's what I did and it worked!
Craniosacral therapy - this is a holistic body-mind therapy that works with the central nervous system to normalize the whole body and bring things into balance. The idea is that given the chance, your body will heal itself. The therapy involves gentle manipulation and often somatic emotional release as you let go of stuck patterns. This is VERY relevant for digestion problems because they are often connected to not being able to process or digest our difficult experiences. (Acid reflux doesn't just come out of nowhere. There's usually something deeper going on.)
Visceral manipulation - this is another type of bodywork that focuses on aligning the viscera properly. This one is apparently helpful in cases of hiatal hernia where there is a mechanical, alignment issue going on.
Bowen therapy - this is a type of neuro structural integration. The therapist makes small, precise movements on very specific points on your muscles and fascia. This sends impulses throughout your nervous system and shifts you out of the parasympathetic stress response into the sympathetic restoration/healing mode. Very good for all sorts of troubles, including digestive problems and acid reflux.
Acupuncture - I think everyone is probably familiar with this. Acupuncturists have been treating acid reflux for a very, very long time.
I myself went to see a therapist who used craniosacral and visceral manipulation. I had two treatments and my LPR symptoms completely resolved. The other two modalities were next on my list to try, but happily, I didn't need to.
Has anyone else had success with any of these? Other modalities?
I should add that of course I made all the dietary changes that we all hear about. I would never suggest that we can skip that part. Just want to offer some other options. There is help out there. It's just not coming from allopathic medicine.
Good luck!!
