For years, I have had acid reflux.
But this isn't about the reflux per se. I can live with the reflux and take dexilant etc.
But what I cannot live with is the fact that after I eat a meal, food spontaneously comes up from my stomach into my mouth. When I lay in bed food or water rushes into my throat and I have to sit up and re swallow the food/water.
I have had an endoscopy and the surgeon said that the sphincter that closes above the stomach does not close like normal. He said that he put his scope through the sphincter and the sphincter didn't contract against the scope, and he said that he probably could have fit another scope and a half through the sphincter no problem.
The surgeon also said that I had a decent sized haital hernia. Not a very large one, but a decent one.
Symptoms include random attacks of acid coming up into my throat, and food and water coming up. Sometimes I will burp and food will come rushing up, and sometimes I am unable to shut my mouth in time and I end up spitting the food on myself (embarrassing when out with friends).
So my question is this, which surgery is better for my symptom profile?
Nissen Fundoplication or the Esophyx TIF procedure or some other procedure? Please explain your response so that I can make an informed decision. I just keep reading about how these procedures are used for acid reflux but I have the additional symptom of food coming up.
