Deb, I've been told that this Dr. usually places peg tubes in post nissen procedures. To make an easier heal, perhaps? To my knowledge I have no underlying reason to have the feeding tube. I've also been told this surgeon has a 98% success rate so hopefully their statistics are correct!

I had no feeding tube and was eating a popsicle, jello, broth, pudding, and tea 4 hours after surgery.

Some surgeons have started to put PEG tubes in so you can vent your stomach. This helps with bloating.
You just
open the tube cap and any pressure will release. I had one for about
3 months after my esophagus tear surgery.
Take care,
Bill

No reflux at all now.
