I have recently stopped taking PPI's due to learning about
long term effects and not really sure if they are helping me much at all. I have experienced some rebound, more so the first week, and it seems to have lessened quite a bit now. I have been off the PPI's for 2 weeks and 2 days now and have had verry little to no acid reflux for the past three days. I had an appointment with my doctor last week and they recommended that I get an endoscopy done to try and find out the cause of the acid reflux in the first place. I have a feeling that the main cause of it was from a bad diet and now that I have changed that, everything is working much better now and now I just need to wait for the rebound period to come up.
So with my symptoms going away, does anyone think I should still have the endoscopy or do you think it may be a waste of my time, money, and a vacation day? I do have insurance but it is a high deductible plan. There's hardly anything towards my deductible now since no one in my family ever goes to the doctors office for anything outside of normal checkups so I would have to pay for it out of pocket. I have read it can cost $800+ for the exam and am wondering if it's even going to be worth it.
Thanks!
