dry, dry, dry painful throat

Does anybody else get this??  My throat is so dry it doesnt matter how much water i drink it just feels drier and the pain can be unbearable.   I dont know if this is reflux or ativan side effects.  Unfortunately i was put on ativan for the globus sensation without knowing what it was.  Now im going thru hellish withdrawal.  But the throat pain is by far the worst part.

Hi lobstaguy,

Sorry to hear you're struggling with a painfully dry throat.  I have had a lot of dry mouth symptoms with certain drugs, but not the experience you're describing.  Have you discussed the symptom with your doctor?  If not, I suggest you do.  He/she might want to make some adjustments, or try something else.

Hi Denise, my ENT suggested taking salagen to increase saliva but im leary of that because its my larynx thats dry not my mouth. I think the dry throat is a side effect of the ativan which im weaing off of. Its really a horrible experience because they put me on the ativan for the globus sensation, now it seems i have multiple troubles with my throat.

It is a normal occurrence for anti-anxiety drugs such as Ativan  to cause dry mouth in patients as well as some patients experience the sore throat problems.

In some instances, there may be no drugs suitable for substitution of the lorazepam. Nevertheless, it is possible for individuals prescribed Ativan to acclimate themselves to the condition. There are also many oral moisturizers or saliva substitutes that can provide relief for cottonmouth.

I would take a chance on salagen as well as consider using a product similar to THAYERS® Sugar-Free Dry Mouth Sprays and Lozenges deliver soothing, natural, instant moisture and relief from dry mouth and  sore throats.

Another product that you may want to keep on your radar is MuGard which is a Rx prescription product that I have for dry mouth, sores in my throat and mouth from Chemotherapy.

Hi Kitt, ive tried most of those except the mugard. My neighbor offered me some of that but i cant get it way down in the voicebox area by garggling and i cant swallow it. I really believe its that ativan causing this horrible dryness and pain and there doesnt seem to be anything i can do about it. I thought it would get better as i weaned down but it really hasnt. It causes extreme anxiety so im in a really bad catch 22.
