Questions about hiatus hernia

Hi hope.

Probably half all older people have a small hiatal hernia and don't even know it. The hernia shouldn't grow much, so don't worry unless it's causing intolerable problems.

It takes a pretty bad hit for a hiatal hernia to suddenly increase in size. I was in a bad wreck and the airbag and seatbelt shoved most of my stomach into my chest. But that's an extreme event.

Are you doing something that puts a lot of pressure on your abdomen? I wouldn't play football, but swimming is excellent exercise. If you are very worried talk to your gastroenterologist.

Normal activities and most sports are not going to change the hernia. As Alcie said it takes a hard hit, like a car wreck, to blow open a hernia. Or maybe some severe power lifting. Basicially everyone has a HH, but most don't know it as they don't suffer from GERD.

Picking up your child isn't going to do anything to yours.
