I can only speak for my experience and I cannot say that our issues are the same from the small bit of information you have given but;
3 years ago come April 1, I had a Nissen Fundoplication. Before my surgery I had a chronic cough, I had asthma (diagnosed 12-13 years prior) I had scratchy throat almost every day. when I had the 48 hr Bravo PH test, as I came out from under the anesthetic, the doctor told me he had seen that I had asthma on my chart. He asked me when I was diagnosed and I told him. He stated at that time that after my surgery I would not have asthma anymore. I asked him what he meant and he told me that he felt my asthma was reflux induced. He told the truth, I have not had a cough since the day after my surgery and I have no more asthma at all. I used to have to carry a rescue inhaler with me at all time. I haven't used one since the day before my surgery.
As far as a recommendation for the surgery, I would have to completely agree with Kitt.. Get a second opinion and as she suggested, write down every question you can think of. This is major surgery and it will take a long time for total recovery. Would I do it again if necessary? Without a doubt. I have a life again...
