Strawbrys & Cream -
Having suffered intense chest pain from this gastritis, I know how awful you feel. In the past 5 or 6 years, I have made three trips to the emergency room with unbearable pain which resulted in a thalium scan the first time to check my heart and an angiogram to check it the second time. My heart checked out fine both times.
My pain sometimes lasted all day long, but mostly it was just at night....every night. It about drove me crazy. The intense feeling of pressure was almost unbearable.
Then, after the third really bad episode, the pain subsided and seemed to be replaced with this awful acid feeling in my mouth and throat, in addition to a horrible feeling in my stomach. It was as if the pain and pressure had ruptured the LES muscle and relieved the pressure but had started the acid upward.
I no longer have the unbearable pain but it seemed to evolve to this horrendous acid feeling, hoarseness, bad breath, and a bloated stomach.
In the meantime, I have tried Nexium, Prilosec, Protonix, and am now on Aciphex. Last night alone, I had two tums, Maalox, and water during the night while trying to sleep elevated on a pile of pillows.
I guess I am not offering a solution for you, but am sympathizing with your distress. The heart testa I had did give me a level of comfort to know it wasn't my heart. Some heart tests may give you that same comfort. There always is the possibility of a heart problem so be sure to check with your doctor until he helps you eliminate the concern about your heart. Good luck.
