I benefited from all of those. I have been off PPIs since my 1st surgery and the weight loss was a plus. Once recovered I have much more energy. I just had a barretts follow up yesterday and was told my esophagus and stomach look perfect. My irregular Z line is now gone and the couldn't see any sign of my barretts. I am sure it has healed over, but since everything else is looking good I believe it will stay dormant too.

Have you had a PH study and Manometry? These tests show more of what is going on and is needed to decide of surgery is a good choice.

Six month report after Nissen-----reflux totally gone but stomach burning still with me.

I had a GI Dr. appointment last month. I told him I was unable to get off PPIs and I had tried many times. I had to take calcium and magnesium supplements to keep my heart beating regularly. The Doc. said he doubted the PPIs had anything to do with my heart palpitations. But when I stopped taking the PPIs for 2 or 3 days the palpitations went away.

Anyway, he prescribed an anti-anxiety drug called Buspar. I told him I did not have anxiety problems, but he said Buspar also relaxes the proximal stomach and blocks some nerve impulses. Well...I have been on Buspar for almost 3 weeks. I do not feel any different mentally but my stomach problems seem to be mostly GONE. After the first week on Buspar I noticed I felt worse the day I took my PPI. Then the next day I was better. So I just stopped taking the PPI and took a Zantac at bedtime and one before lunch. I felt better without the PPI. I have not taken any PPIs for over 3 weeks! Some days I forget to take any Zantac and still have no problems.

So the Doc. said my reflux, which was bad, was cured by the Nissen surgery and my 50 year struggle with reflux may have caused what he calls, functional dyspepsia. And Buspar is used to treat it.

So far, almost four weeks into the Buspar treatment, I feel great. Stopped taking my mineral supplements and have had no heart issues at all...NONE. Almost my old self again. I hope it continues to work this well.
