Howdy!
I took children's motrin for awhile after surgery until I could swallow pills and then moved on to the ibuprofen tablets. Because of the stomach irritation from the motrin, I did take zantac, and tums occasionally.
I feel like taking the ibuprofen was the right choice for me. I have inflammatory issues anyway, and taking the ibuprofen helped keep me comfortable and able to walk more, and eat more, and experience less swelling and pain.
I no longer take anything, unless my rib pain flairs up after jogging or working out, which I just started doing again. I no longer need the zantac either.
Even before surgery, I had more of a regurgitation problem than an acid problem, but I know a lot of people stick with their PPI or zantac at least for maybe 6 months or so after surgery to keep the stomach tissues happy while they heal.
If it helps you, then it is probably quite alright to take it. I never had success with DGL, but many people say that it helps.
