Hi Veritas:
I had another endoscope that revealed that I did not have Barrett's esophagus, as I had been previously diagnosed by the doctor who performed the Stretta. It was also revealed, through PH testing with a little capsule size monitor, that I do not have acid reflux. The doctor who performed the endoscope and testing said I do not have any inflammation and that essentially, GERD is not the reason for my pain. That it is the result of the Stretta. She did not know what else to do, so she referred me to another doctor more experienced than she. Turns out, through my own research, that some of the doctors on the list that Mederi provides as a referral to doctors who perform Stretta, in fact do not have anything to do with the procedure and that, for the purposes of boosting their credibility, they are putting certain doctors with certain prominent affiliations on their list. Very, very improper.
As it stands right now, the new doctor is having me do another CT scan, a manometry test and another motility test. This doctor does not believe I'll be able to handle the 24 hour motility test, so it will be the one hour test. I pray I can get through that, as I continue to have swallowing issues, belching issues and pain at the surgery site, which causes vomiting and even more pain. It's been 90 days since I had this procedure and I cannot believe the amount of pain I continue to be in and that simply moving around increases my pain at the procedure site. The new doctor's best guess? Nerve damage.
My message to anyone considering this procedure? Don't consider it at all. Few credible gastro docs either know about
it or would consider using it. I've spoken to A LOT of gastro doctors since this procedure and many are stunned by what I've gone through. Find another way to control your GERD. Please.
