Anyone had a PH & Impedence Test on PPI's?

Hi,

My gastro has suggested a repeat of the pH and impedance tests and manometry whilst ON the ppi's as I'm refluxing like mad - has anyone else ever done this - and how do you get a true deemester score?

Gastro is still saying it's all motility and perhaps I should try a feeding tube!! shocked

I never had any problems until the blooming hernia appeared. I just don't get it.

Hi there! I actually had my PH test done while I was on PPIs. My score was still really bad. They will be able to tell when and how much you are refluxing even on PPIs
My doctor kept me on them because I was miserable and couldnt function without it. Same as you, I had no troubles until one day its like the dam broke and boom, regurgitation.

I had my test done while on ppi's, the point was to see if the ppi's work. I don't worry about deemester score that much, (IMO) how many reflux events matters more. As far as a feeding tube, I would get a second opinion before I gave in to that.

Doggbones- You can bet I'm going for a second opinion before they stick a feeding tube anywhere near me.

I can not find the paperwork, but they said I had 49 occurances of acid reflux and 44 of non acidic reflux with the longest episode lasting 124 minutes. That was on 2x daily protonix.

I had the PH study done with my PPIs. I don't remember what the exact number was but I know mine was in the high 80's with the number of instances of acid reflux in 24 hours while on my maximum prescribable dose of 40mg omeprazole twice a day predominately in the upright position.

Ppi's stop the acid but do not stop the reflux.

Hi,
I was on dexilant once a day when i underwent ph Test.
I had 34 reflux episodes, 0% acidic and 0.6% non acidic.
But i distinctly remember i was suffering from chest pain and burning throughout the day while i had that tube/probe inside my esophagus.

I have no idea what is going on with my body. Can the test be wrong?

Mcedge are you sure PPI does not stop the reflux??
I was going through a study.. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23560727
it says "Esomeprazole decreases significantly the number of reflux episodes detected by impedance, but only in patients with GERD."

Hi recentgerder

I was told by my surgeon that ppi's stop the production of acid but they do not stop the reflux.
He also said that lots of people are walking around with reflux and don't know that they have reflux.
He said that the ppi's would stop the acid but surgery stops the reflux.
Not sure if he's correct but he was very convincing.

Hi Maria,
What your physician is saying makes sense.
But there is lot that we don't know about this complex machinery.
