Breathing difficulties 6 mths after Fundo

I had my Fundo and hernia repair last August and felt like a million dollars until 2 weeks ago. I suddenly got the breathing difficulty back again (the breathing in struggle) and burning in the back of throat and yukky taste in my mouth. I have a whitish tongue and sinus back. All of the symtoms that I had before the Fundo. I immediately went into panic control, but have sinced calmed down lol.  That was the worst time of my life a yr before surgery suffereing depression from no one being able to diagnose my breathing and silebt reflux issues. I have made an appointment to see my surgeon but that will be in a few weeks. He mentioned after my op I would need the scope to have a look and see how I am going,I am just hoping that all is in tact. I would like to know if anyone else has had these symtoms back post op? I did have a lot of constpation after my op but now all is good, with proper eating ect.

Hi Mindbodyandsoul,
It is possible to still get reflux after a Nissen...just less. If the surgeon created a wrap tight enough to keep reflux to zero, you wouldn't be able to get food past it when you eat.

The holidays are a time when we overeat, and can get some reflux. If you've got sensitive lungs, you'll get breathing problems as a result. While the Nissen keeps most of the acid in your stomach where it belongs, even our wrapped friends can get some reflux when trigger foods are eaten.

I had horrible lung issues with minimal reflux before my surgery. My lungs improved 100% once they healed post-op. Still, I have to be careful, as a little reflux can create havoc. My surgery was done 5 years ago, and my lungs are doing great.

I suspect you'll find that your wrap is intact. Eat very carefully for a while. You could even take some Zantac or PPI for a while until things calm down. I would bet that with some time and care, you'll get feeling good again soon.

Thank u so much Denise, I just assumed I was going down the same road and went into panic mode. I have been through so much and have just got back to normal and was feeling great Now all of of sudden the breathing and the clearing of the trhoat and horrible taste in my mouth. Anyway I will find out soon enough, thanks again Denise.

For some reason he didn't do the full wrap said it was not necessary. I have a feeling I am going to have to have this surgery again. Why on earth didn't he just do the full wrap:(

Not sure why he chose a partial wrap, but do you remember what you had agreed on and what the surgical paperwork said?

With all of my nissens I had to sign paperwork that had exactly what was to be done and what might need to be done in case of an emergency. I also had to tell them in my own words what was going to happen and it was written down.

If you had been told a full wrap and that wasn't what he did then I am speechless.

On no Bill he did recommend a 1/2 wrap, but I am not sure why. My PH level was 276, extremely high and I had chronic breathing problems. The breathing problem ceased immediately after surgery but is now back as well as the burning throat hoarse voice etc. I feel disappointed because I got back all my energy and was in a great frame of mind, now I feel like I'm slipping back, so bloody frustrating. Anyway will keep u updated when I have seen my surgeon. Thank you for the reply and have a great day.
