hi Lily,
I also have a delicate stomach (my GI doc calls it "reactive"). I just had a colonoscopy in March, and like you, I stressed over the prep's effects on my stomach.
The Gatorade really worried me. I hate it to begin with, and it is very acidic. While I know everyone's reaction is unique, as a fellow sensitive stomach sufferer, I am happy to report that it didn't bother me. I hope you are as fortunate! Good luck with your prep and procedure!
Best wishes,
Denise

Thank you Hayleybw, hang it there this will all work out, it's okay to vent we all have been there. :)
@Lily, I think you will be fine with the Gatorade mix, I had much rather do that than what I did, when is the procedure if you don't mind me asking?
So we are getting a new thread, I'll be looking for it as I would hate to loose contact with you wonderful people. It has really been a blessing to share our experiences.

Never fear...if starting a new thread would interfere with the support you are providing each other,I wouldn't do it! As soon as I have a minute, I will make the changes, and if you have any problems at all, just let me know!

Lily,
I've got no problems with letting people know what I eat as it will give an idea of what I eat and what they eat. I have found that a lot of tomato based products don't give me that many problems so I enjoy some of them from time to time. Onions in moderation don't give me any problems either. It's basically more of a trial and error process. If I have any problems with something I eat, the next time I make it, I'll leave out one of the ingredients I think is causing the problem to determine if it was or not. I think this is what makes it easy for me as I cook with simple items and not any processed foods with an ingredient list. I hope you continue to get better along with everyone else.
As for how I'm feeling, I feel more gas buildup and have been having a little more burning. I think I'll need to get some more probiotics as I'm running low. I have forgotten to take them the past couple of days but need to remember to do that. I tried an HCI tablet this morning but I think that messed my day up. I need to figure out something else if I'm going to eat eggs, or maybe I just need to stop with the eggs or something.
On a better note I got my new blog up and running. I'm hoping that I'll continue to have time to create posts for it. I think it'll be helpful as I have dedicated it to an overall healthy lifestyle type blog that I will talk not just about
eating healthy, but having healthy habits to create a better lifestyle over all such as things to do to relieve stress. Here is the website address: http://healthyeatingandlivingblog.wordpress.com/
Let me know what you think and I hope you enjoy. It's just got one post but I have a couple more that I will put up this weekend.

Denise thank you for your reassurance re the Gatorade. I think I may have to use half water half Gatorade or powerade unless I come up with something else. I hate the thoughts of drinking that stuff. My procedure is on May 19th so may 18th will be D-day!!! I was thinking of filling 6 glasses so dividing the miralex into 6 portions and using Gatorade or apple juice and half water. I could also use coconut water I suppose - yuk.
Javery - I have duly noted your website for the blog and will be very interested to read it when you get it up and running. I am more than willing to get some food ideas as I am so bored and floundering with what I eat. I am rapidly losing weight and I don't look very good for it either. When we discussed the other day about
oatmeal and I said I have been eating a lot of it. I have noticed the last few days after I paid real attention to it I have the 'something stuck in throat feeling by afternoon time so I think that might be the oatmeal that is doing it. Too bad because it is nice and filling and keeps me going until lunch time. I also think it happens when I eat bread. does it every go away? I also have eaten a lot of eggs because of the protein although some say they are hard to digest. I love lentil soup but as it has tomato in it I have avoided it. Maybe it is time for me to do some more experimenting with foods. However, I am always wary of the nausea returning. Lets hope as time goes on it lessens and I can feel more normal. I see you are still struggling with some things but I feel sure you will figure it all out. Your calm demeanor must help.

Lily,
You might want to try jasmine rice. I have read from a lot of others that it doesn't cause any problems and with the Fast Tract diet it is among one of the better rices that is digested more easily. It doesn't give me any problems and I tend to eat that for extra carbs now and then. It's more of a sticky type rice and doesn't taste bad either. I would advise eating some sort of fibrous vegetables with it though so you don't cause insulin spikes as it digests quickly on it's own which creates the same effect as eating straight sugar. The fiber will help slow down the digestion.

Thank you Javery. I have some jasmine rice as I prefer it over just regular long grain rice. Have you tried potatoes in oil baked in the oven. I think that might be a tasty change. I am Eating lots of veggies but just a little fruit. I was never a fast food eater or a big meat eater but I did enjoy some
cookies and lots of candy. Now I find I don't even want it. I don't want to lose any more weight so I am going to have to find ways to eat more of the right things and maintain what I have. Did you read the article about
the strawberry extract a product called Esophageal Guardian. Sounds very promising but at the moment I am sort of reluctant to spend more money on a supplement after I bought the Intestinew and it was hopeless.

I would think potatoes would be fine as long as you left the skin on. Something I do sometimes is slice the potatoes into thick like chips and then put some organic butter on them. I'll sometimes top with a little cheese and bacon. I bake them in the oven at 325 for about
15-20 minutes. Those don't give me any problems. I prefer the butter over bacon as the fats from organic butter are not bad for you as much as vegetable oils are.
I skimmed through the article about
strawberries. It was interesting. I'd rather just eat the strawberries to get the benefit as they contain other things as well unless they gave me problems. I don't get strawberries too often though cause they are a little more pricier than other fruits. I dropped from 135 lbs down to 110 lbs and have been maintaining with eating hardly any carbs. I eat either rice or potatoes 1-3 times a week and that's it. I hope you find something that works for you.

Oh those potatoes sound just wonderful I could eat them right now. I can eat a potato any which way. I have avoided any cheeses for the last few months but maybe that might be an option for me now that I am somewhat feeling better. What kind of cheese do you use? Isn't cheese considered acidic? At this point though I would love to have some. thanks for the ideas I truly appreciate them. I would think that your body has re-balanced itself more than mine has to date. I still have a long way to go to get myself off this darned PPI although I think the reduction I made was quite drastic after being on the 40mgs for at least 5 years.

Hi everyone, I hope you all are having a relatively good day. It's pretty warm where I am and I am enjoying the sun as it had been raining the last few days. Lily I haven't been feeling terrible today. Some mild burning/chest squeezing but nothing major so far. I took 150 mg Ranitidine last night and I think it helped me sleep. Tonight after dinner will be the real test because night's always worse for me and also I hardly ate anything today so that might be a reason I am not doing badly right now.
Lily I hope you will be just fine on the Gatorade prep for your colonoscopy and will think good thoughts for you that day. I'm glad Dencha did well with it and I hope you will too!
Javery, I do the same thing re trial and error for what I can and cannot eat and drink. I can eat grilled onions with no problem (thank goodness because I add them to my salads all the time) and I also eat almonds and walnuts and bananas without any issues and I know some people don't do well on these foods.
I went to Whole Foods this afternoon and picked up a tea called Throat Coat from Traditional Medicinals that has slippery elm/ licorice/marshmallow root and is supposed to be soothing for digestive ailments. I will keep you posted when I try it. I also picked up a lot of other herbal teas-my cart was full of teas LOL. I just had a delicious Vanilla Rooibos tea from Tazo and so far no negative reaction.
I find my esophagus/stomach does better with warm vs cold liquids. Does anyone else find that to be true? Perhaps the cold liquids causes esophageal spasming? It's just when I drink cold water my chest usually starts hurting/squeezing. That seems an important clue.
I am scheduled for the manometry and ph impedance testing May 8th but I am leaning towards canceling because it is just so invasive and I do not think I can deal with a tube up my nose down my throat for a full 24 hours. I could do it for a few hours but very doubtful for a full day. I have been going back and forth over this decision and I have to decide by Monday because I want the doctor to have plenty of notice. I just am not sure it will aid in the quality of treatment so what is the point and mainly I don't think I could tolerate the test. Has anybody here done either of these tests? Is it as bad as I think it is?
Hope everyone is hanging in there and see you on the new thread :)
