I have been suffering with acid reflux for over 10 years. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia in 2004. I was put on a proton inhibitor (aciphex). I was on that medication for more than 10 years. I dont think it ever really helped me. I do believe that All my sinus problems for the past 10 years have really been acid reflux problems mostly. I had thyroid cancer in 2008 and unfortunately went to a general surgeon instead of my ear nose and throat Doctor. I lost one of my vocal chords with the thyroidectomy. The cancer came out with the thyroid so that was good. I think my acid reflux gerd quadrupled after my thyroidectomy. I was never told about this surgery for acid reflux till just recently. I live in Somers Point, NJ and no surgeons do this type of surgery or dont want to do it because they dont do it enough. I was referred to a surgeon in Pennsylvania because he is a specialist on this procedure. I choke and gag and cough bad when I eat. When i lay down I cough and choke. I have to watch what I eat. I have suffered so many years. I think with one vocal chord it makes it even worse. I am scheduled for this surgery Friday, the 28th. I sure hope it helps me because nothing else has. It is so depressing. I have never smoked in my lifetime and I am 62years old but the way I cough like a dry hack you would think I smoked alot. Ill let you all know how my surgery goes. Thanks for this site.
