Preop preparedness?

Just wondering what prep. I will need to do for surgery. Will it just be no food or drink after midnight, or will I have to drink disgusting stuff to totally empty bowel and stomach, or is there something else?

Welcome to the forum, MN.

Yes, it will be the bowel prep. You don't want a full gut getting in their way.

Main things to get done are having some clear liquids, "full" liquids, and soft foods stocked in. You won't be able to go shopping for at least a couple of weeks.

I didn't have to do any prep for any of my nissens or my esophagus tear surgery, just NPO after midnight. I was even allowed a regular supper the night before my nissens.
Some surgeons do want a bowel prep though, so I'd ask your surgeon about this. Some have their patients on a liquid diet a week or so before also. again it's just what ever the surgeon has decided on as his way of doing things.
