upper right back pain hiatal hernia?

Hi,
I wondered if anyone else had my symptoms. Had a scope in jan, small hiatal hernia. The problems is I still have pain to right of spine and shoulder blade and a feeling like I have a tight band round my middle. I am short breath, have mucousy cough and am fed up of all this.

Clear chest x ray, mri thoracic spine etc. Cannot tolerate ppis and they never helped anyway. Feel like I am going mad as drs here in u.k. are prone to putting it all down to stress. I was not stressed when this all started but am now.

Wondered if anyone can help

Maybe the doc was looking for lung problem. X-rays don't show spine problems unless there's a broken bone. If you go to a pain specialist they might prescribe an MRI which would show nerve impingement if it's there.

A small hiatal hernia is common and most don't cause any problems.

I've got nerve pain in my shoulder blade, have gotten a couple of facet joint injections, but the right spot hasn't been found yet. I'm going back in a couple more weeks, hoping to try a different spot. I know it's nerve, for me, I had it on the other side and had a lumbar injection that migrated up the little canals to the neck and stopped the pain instantly.

Does anyone get really short of breath it is quite severe at times despite co2 sats of 100%. It is not anxiety but feels i cannot breathe right even at rest as if I have a band round me,

I am asthmatic but this is different. I know the drs think I am mad as no tests show anything. This all started in november right out of the blue with ibs and nausea and its just got worse despite numerous tests which just showed the
Hiatal hernia. I was sent away with no other help or advice.

I live in u.k. where drs are even more sceptical plus being female they put it all down to nerves. I am not neurotic and have a good life apart from this.

It does sound like silent reflux to me and I feel my oesophagus is irritated. The back pain started right after the scope as did the s.o.b.

I have a small (was large) hiatus hernia, not sure which of my symptoms it causes to be honest but I've never really had the pains you describe and am told its uncommon to actually have pain from the hernia itself. Could it be acid reflux? mine sometimes permeates through to my back.

The thing with GPs is some are useless, you have to just insist. I had the exact same problem as you, they told me it was all in my mind, and they even convinced me it was! I went through so much stress trying to combat the "anxiety", none of it helping, until finally I was diagnosed with gastritis and GERD!

So don't listen to them, be insistent, and dont take no for an answer. Remember you have a legal right to a second opinion and exercise it if they refuse to check you out thoroughly. Writing off pains as "stress" is just a lazy cop out taken by many GPs.
