3 Days to Surgery

Hi I am a male from the UK who's about to undergo Nissen Fundoplication surgery 3 days from now. I have read a few other peoples stories on here and thought I would try and share my experiences as I go through this and the post op experience too.

My GERD background - diagnosed 2 years ago but have had it for over 10 years but didn't realize till it got severe. First endoscopy revealed a swollen esophagus, multiple ulcers, a rolling hernia, and Barratt's Syndrome. Was put on meds which failed to get it under control, just got worse, admitted to hospital a few times with pain so severe they filled me with morphine to take the edge off it. A PH and and manometry test finally showed that my LES was not functioning at all, also my swallowing function was only working at about 60% the reflux scores were in the doctors words "off the scale" - 14 being considered high I scored 256 at the lower end of my esophagus while the higher end was hitting 30!

I was then recommended for surgery and after a 4 month wait we are finally approaching the day.

Have begun to get nervous, had surgery before but never as nervous as this time. Also apprehensive of how I will feel the other side of it all.

So I will try and update here as much as I can and hopefully share as much about my experience as some other have done so well on here and given me hope.

Hi just to update, surgery tomorrow, due at the hospital at 7am. Have spent the week trying to build myself up a bit as best as I can without triggering heartburn etc. Porridge, vegetable/chicken broths and low fat rice pudding and apple sauce have been my everyday staples so hopefully that will help a bit, given the soft diet I will be on afterwards.
