Has anyone tried ZYPAN by Standard Process for GERD?

I saw my chiropractor today and he recommended this product...He said he believes I am producing too little acid to digest my food and this is why my stomach is producing an over abundance of acid after I eat...it doesn't make sense to me but I have heard that low acid will produce symptoms of GERD too...This product contains betaken hydrochloride,pancreatin,pepsin and a few other ingredients...I am afraid to take it because I already have daily chest pains and heartburn...I am very confused as PPIs really make me feel awful with nausea, dizziness and achiness...I have been taking Ranitidine and even 300 mg... Doesn't completely eliminate the pain...Has anyone used this product with any success?

A chiropractor is not a gastroenterologist. A gastro can do some tests and tell you if you need any of these ingredients. He can find the CAUSE of your pain.

What is the purpose of taking Ranitidine to reduce acid and then taking acid? An MD can prescribe the other ingredients, very cheap generics - look up pancrelipase. There are many formulations depending on what testing says you need.

PPIs are not all the same. I got no relief from the OTCs, but did feel much better on a couple of others. But that's getting ahead of finding the problem.

I did go to my gastroenterologist twice since this episode...he says we can do the 24 hour test for acid---do you know much about that test??? The last time I had this, I had every test imaginable and the only test which showed any abnormality was the endoscope which showed gastritis....What tests should I have? My gastro doctor is very kind but he is also very conservative in recommending tests...
I did take the Zypan today after each meal and do feel a bit better tonight---not as much chest pain for sure...
Thank you for taking the time to reply ....I get so afraid that the nausea I suffered for months in 2011 will return...

There are many posts about pH test. Just put some keywords in the search box at the top of the page. Mostly you will see posts by people who are scared, but others reply not a big deal. It's not bad for most people.

I'd rather have a conservative doc than one who rushes you into surgery. Did you tell him about the Zypan? Seriously, you shouldn't take medicine unless it's prescribed by someone with credentials and have had testing that shows you need it.

Taking a little acid is supposed to stop the stomach from producing acid. See the search box for posts.

Your gastroenterologist can prescribe medicines for nausea too.

I took zypan for several months. It didn't help me at all. My acupuncturist suggested it along with acupuncture 3x a week for the past year . I Also took 10- 15 other standard process supplements. They have helped me in my thyroid and adrenal issues. But nothing has helped my throat pain and choking sensation. I've had every test there is but have suffered for 5 years. Last week I had an esophagram. First one and I wonder why it's the only test I hadn't had yet. This test showed no reflux but did show I have reduced motility in my esophagus, which my research so far indicates dysphagia is a symptom, and secondary reflux is also common from an undiagnosed disease?? Where to go now is the question. The same doc that ordered the esophagram suggested a tonsillectomy. Another specialist maybe? What happened to the good old days when doctors knew everything about the body not just their specialty. Although my acupuncturist has helped my general health my throat problem persists and has ruined my life. Good luck to you and I hope you find someone that is willing to really help you find the cause and therefore the cure.

The Zypan has worked great---I was terrified to take it but I could feel a difference the first day...it has been only four days, but I have no reflux or chest pain...I feel so very grateful ....I will keep everyone posted on how it is working...

Just curious how much zypan u took. And did u take it with meals or alone? Great that you found some relief!! Alternative healing really does work in a lot of cases. You just have to find the right doctor and get the right diagnosis. I think the reason it didn't work for me is that it's not a stomach acid issue, it's a peristalsis issue. I think I have the right amount of acid, it just takes too long for the food to reach my stomach. And somehow that causes some type of reflux. Maybe silent reflux??

I only take one tablet after each meal even though he told me to take two...I tend to be very sensitive to meds so I always start slow...I had a GES two years ago which showed slower than normal emptying which is really mild gastroparesis...At that time, I had persistent nause and lost 30 pounds and only started out at 118...I was very concerned but eventually I gained back the weight and started feeling better... However, every few months, I begin having digestive issues again but continue to exercise, work, etc... It just frustrates and scares me at times... I have had soooo many tests--CTs of the abdomen, ultrasounds, colonoscopy, endoscopy, barium swallow, MRI, GES, and a myriad of bloodwork...
I was on Protonix, Carafate ,Zantac and gas x for a few months three years ago and none really helped... Needless to say, I am very grateful Zypan has given me some relief and hope it continues to do so...
I hope you can find something that helps your motility..
