Hello
I have not posted in quite some time. I have been on and off PPI's for 10 years (over the counter) Prilosec and prevacid. In the past month I developed back pain and itching (also noticed over the past year muscle twitching in back). about
a month ago I got severe back pain and did not really associate the two together. Well my sister who is also been on for three years told me she broke her foot twice because the acid blockers eat the calcium in our bodies. I went and researched and saw what this stuff can do to your muscles and skeletal system. I stopped about
10 days ago and the twitching, itching and back issues are starting to go away.
My question has anyone on this board built up an intolerance to a PPI after being on it for a while

There are many members who have experienced side effects from being on PPIs, myself included. I was on them for 10 years and it contributed to symptoms of IBS as well as muscle twitching. I am on OTC Pepcid AC 2 times a day and I feel better off the PPIs. I also added in probiotics and it has helped. Try alkaline water and changing your diet to a low acid diet to manage your reflux. I follow the LOWFODMAPS diet and it is helpful. PPIs can produce issues over time.

Thank you so much for answering I have been so stressed out over this. The pain in my back was so intense that I thought there was something wrong with my kidney's. I had an upper Abdominal ultrasound done last Wednesday and am still waiting on the results so anxious over that. I suffer from severe health anxiety so this has been very difficult for me.

I have a lovely rash over my legs and one arm from the massive doses of omeprazole that they put me on. Am gradually weaning myself off them.

Today its been two weeks since my last pill. I am taking Zantec in between if I have flareups. The side effects are slowly going away and I am feeling better. Thanks again for everyone's responses.
