Welcome to Healing Well! Yes, the Nissen fundoplication surgery can stop regurgitation and reflux related lung issues.

I had very sick lungs/uncontrolled asthma for 6 years, and finally got the courage to go forward with a Nissen surgery. My family doc said my lung issues were "life threatening", and he pushed me to have the surgery.

Over five years ago, I finally had the surgery. After about two to three months of lung healing post-op, my lungs were improved 100%. I still have allergy issues, and some asthma symptoms as a result, but my lungs are generally very healthy--unlike their very sick condition prior to surgery.

Before surgery, though, there are lots of other interventions. Weight loss, diet modifications, and elevation of the head of your bed 7-8" are three that come to mind. Also, have you seen a doctor about this? There are medications that sometimes are enough to protect the lungs. In my case it wasn't enough, but it's a good first step.
