So sorry! I pray that third time's the charm. I didn't know anything about giant paraesophageal hernia before I got one too.
I'm having a lot of nausea and burning throat as I near the 5 year point after GPEH repair with Toupet wrap. I need another scope but I fired my gastroenterologist and haven't been able to find another one as good. He is very good but mean, so I refuse to go back.
I had a couple bad episodes of trying to vomit, one with a little blood coming up. I think something tore the first time only a few weeks post-op. The second time was the flu and I went to an ER that mostly ignored me, didn't believe I had vomiting/heaving, never diagnosed flu. They thought I was drug seeking because I have a pain doc. My family doc did diagnose, had me take Zofran.
My surgeon said he doesn't use mesh for repair because it too often erodes into the esophagus. He did use some of my own tissue to strengthen the hernia repair.
Keep in touch!
